Google cofounder Sergey Brin spoke out about his biggest concerns regarding the freedom and openness of the Internet during a recent interview. He named government censorship, overreach from entertainment companies anxious to eradicate piracy, and walled-off platforms as some of the Net's biggest problems of the day.
I called to cancel my service with Directv after 2+ years of service. I was told that I would incur an early termination fee. I said I had fulfilled my 2 year contract. They said I had upgraded my equipment, and therefore agreed to a new 2 year contract. My reply was I was offered a "customer loyalty" offer of an upgraded receiver at no cost. Their reply was any upgrade was acceptance of a new 2 year contract. I said there was no mention of that anywhere in the offer. There reply was since you ordered online, it is your responsibility to read the "Equipment Lease Addendum".
There seems to be a new trend in product packaging that provides less information than before as to where my potential product has been produced or manufactured. The trend is a shift from "Made in" to "Distributed by". We need a law that requires us to be able to easily ID where something is made.
I HAVE BEEN BAFFLED FOR THE PAST SEVERAL YEARS WHILE FILLING UP MY CAR. I PURCHASED MY 1996 CUTLASS OLDSMOBILE LS IN 1997. AT THAT TIME, I COULD FILL MY CAR UP FOR $15.OO FROM AS EMPTY AS THE TANK COULD BE WITHOUT RUNNING OUT. I HAVE KNOWN THAT THE TANK COULD HOLD AT THE MOST 16 GALLONS. NOW TODAY WHEN I FILL UP, ITS IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD OF $61.00, PLUS THE GALLONS SOLD WILL TELL ME 17-18 GALLONS. I WOULD LOVE TO KNOW HOW IT IS THAT MY GAS TANK HAS TAKEN ON A NEW SIZE. MOST CONSUMERS TODAY DO NOT KEEP THE SAME CAR FOR OVER 15 YEARS AS I HAVE DONE.
