Gas Prices Are Expected To Spike In California Soon

If you were impatiently waiting for the price of gas to drop below $2, summer-blend would like to have a word with you.

Gas prices in Southern California are expected to climb 30 cents by Friday, according to advocacy group Consumer Watchdog in a report on CBS.

Despite consistently tumbling oil prices, the price at the pump is expected to spike due to a switch to summer-blend gasoline—that's the less likely to evaporate gas that we use in warmer weather. Though the deadline to switch to the higher-priced summer-blend is April 1, Consumer Watchdog has already observed a 52-cent uptick in the wholesale market.

In some cases, the switch has already happened. ABC caught the exact moment that a Chevron station in Silver Lake changed its sign from $2.49 per gallon to $2.79 per gallon.

Alright, so a potential 30-cent spike is far from the worst thing that could happen, but consider filling up at the pump today if you were planning any day trips this weekend.
