Insurance Rates to Drop in April

Published on

Nearly 2 million Allstate Auto Insurance customers will see their rates drop nearly 16 percent in April under a recent order by California Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner.

The order is expected to result in average savings of $133 per car.

Allstate requested no change in premiums when it filed a new rate structure with the Department of Insurance in 2006.

The nonprofit Foundation for Taxpayer and Consumer Rights challenged the rates as excessive. It argued the rates should be reduced by 19.4 under Proposition 103, the 1988 voter-approved insurance reform initiative. However, Poizner ordered a 15.9 percent decrease.
