Transparency
When doctors’ histories are kept secret from the public, patient safety suffers.
Patients should have the right to know their provider’s background and if other Californians were harmed or died under their care. This history should be made publicly available and easy to locate on the website of the regulatory board – the Medical Board of California. Patients should also be notified before an appointment when their doctor’s history poses a serious safety risk. This critical information will give Californians the information they need to make an informed decision for their families.
Consumer Watchdog is fighting for greater transparency so patients know all the facts about their healthcare providers. California must require more information be disclosed about a doctor’s disciplinary history on the website of the Medical Board of California and other regulatory boards. And patients must have the right to know before a doctor’s appointment if their doctor is on probation or facing criminal charges.
