Big Win and Winners

California is the only state in America where drivers spent less per year on auto insurance in 2010 than they did in 1989. That startling fact comes from the insurance industry’s own data just analyzed by the Consumer Federation of America.

The group’s report credited California’s insurance reform Proposition 103 — the toughest regulation of auto insurance rates in the America — for the savings.  Premiums rose an average 43% in other states.

This is the ultimate proof that tough regulation of insurance rates works, and it sets the stage for the “Justify Rates” ballot measure that we’ve already qualified for next year’s ballot to extend Prop 103’s protections to health insurance rates.

Last weekend we celebrated the 25th anniversary of Prop 103, which was authored by Consumer Watchdog’s founder Harvey Rosenfield, at the Rage For Justice Awards.  As Harvey said, “You can take on the biggest industries in America and win.”

We also feted The People Speak Media Award winner Chris Moore, Lifetime Legal Achievement Award winner Mark Robinson, and Hall of Fame Inductees Bob Pack and Kay McVay.

Their inspiring speeches and videos celebrating their “Rage for Justice” can now be viewed at RageForJustice.org.

We encourage you to take a few moments to watch these remarkable heroes of the public interest movement talk about what moves them and why they led their movements.

The Rage for Justice Awards are a celebration of those who give voice and power to the powerless and disenfranchised.

Like Harvey, Chris, Mark, Bob and Kay have proved what’s right is right and what’s wrong can be changed.

Thanks for all your support and for all your “Rage for Justice.”  Let’s celebrate the news and the Awards by reflecting on the words of the winners this weekend.
